Missionaries on the Move!

“We made it! With six suitcases, two cats, and two carry-ons. We’re here and safe and tired.”

Packing to serve on the mission field takes careful consideration, time, and effort.

LBT missionaries are on the move once again! Chris and Janine Pluger landed in Ethiopia the first week of August, eager to begin serving with the Ethiopian Evangelical Lutheran Church Mekane Yesus. Michaela Federwitz arrived in Cameroon around the same time. She’ll be assisting the Kuhn family with child-care as the family serves in translation ministry with the Nizaa language community. Tiffany Smith will be traveling to the U.K. later this month to attend classes at Moorlands Christian College in preparation for her first assignment to Botswana. The Rev. Tim and Lisa Beckendorf family have arrived back in the U.S. from Botswana for a short furlough. LBT staff have also been able to travel overseas to meet with missionaries and partners.

Such a difference from last year! But make no mistake: COVID-19 continues to disrupt to some degree every project in every country where LBT serves. Even as I write this there are missionaries planning for furlough who cannot be sure their scheduled flights will actually happen. Rising COVID cases in many areas and the varying policies each country has enacted to combat the disease make it impossible to be sure of anything.

Please continue to pray for good health for translation teams around the world. Pray that they can find innovative and effective ways to meet their goals while practicing local and national safety protocols. Pray that missionaries, staff, and overseas partners will be able to travel as necessary. Pray that God will use every situation to His glory and that His Word will continue to spread among those waiting for Scripture in their language.
