Return to the Word: A Lenten Invitation

“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I hope.” (Psalm 130:5)

Lent is a season of returning—returning to the Lord in repentance, returning to prayer, and returning to His Word.
Many of us struggle to make time for Scripture in our daily lives. The demands of life pull us in every direction, and before we know it, days or weeks have passed without opening our Bibles. Yet, in Psalm 130, the psalmist reminds us where true hope is found: “In His word I hope.” God’s Word is not just a book of rules or history; it is life, grace, and forgiveness for weary sinners. It is the voice of God speaking to us, drawing us back to His mercy.
Lent invites us to slow down and listen. Not out of obligation, but out of need. When we neglect God’s Word, we miss out on the comfort and strength He freely gives. When we open our Bibles, we are reminded that Christ has already done everything for our salvation. His life, death, and resurrection; His faithfulness gives us the sure hope we long for.

If you’ve fallen out of the habit of reading the Bible, let this season be a time to return. Start small. Make a goal over this season of Lent to read one Psalm a day, a passage from the Gospels, or read a few verses a day from Matthew 26-28 and meditate on the events of Holy Week. God is not waiting to scold you; He is waiting to strengthen and restore you. His Word is for you. His promises are for you. His steadfast love never fails.
Prayer: Lord, draw me back to Your Word. Let it be my hope, my comfort, and my joy. In the midst of my busy days, help me to pause and listen, trusting in Your promises. Amen.
