Messenger: Assyrian Churches Lead the Way

In a powerful display of ownership and vision, Assyrian-speaking churches in California are driving the Assyrian Bible Translation project forward – spiritually, financially, and strategically. What began as a small translation initiative over 15 years ago has transformed into a high-quality, modern Bible in the Assyrian language.

Five churches have stepped in as key partners, fully funding upcoming printings of the Pentateuch and a revised New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs. Their involvement goes beyond financial support – they’re actively shaping the project’s direction by requesting specific texts and providing feedback that strengthens the translation’s impact.

“These churches are incredibly engaged,” shares Rob Hilbert, Executive Director of the project. “Their passion for God’s Word and their cultural heritage is fueling momentum.”

Though distribution in the Middle East remains difficult, digitial access through platforms like YouVersion is expanding the reach of Scripture worldwide. Thanks for the faithful leadership of these churches, generations of Assyrian speakers will have access to God’s Word in a language they understand and cherish.
