TEARS AND SINGING– Michelle Gillard
With tears and singing, the new solar kits and laptops were received at Zaka Circuit for the Suena, Zia and Yekora Language translators. This equipment was carefully packed and wrapped with tarps so it could safely be transported on the ocean and upriver to its final destination. The satellite image below shows some of the journey.
Sou Una says, “He is happy to be involved in the translation work because he witnessed firsthand from helping his father translating songs into Zia language, so he knows how awesome it will be when the Word of God is in Zia and the impact it will have in Zia tribe.”
The equipment was dedicated to God’s work by the church leaders on a joyful sunny day in PNG just a few weeks ago.
1 Chronicles 16:9, “Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all his wonderous works!”
LUTHERAN BIBLE TRANSLATORS MILESTONES – Dr. Becky Grossmann
More Than Words has been LBTs working theme for the last five years. At the start, LBT was serving 72 language communities and set a goal to double that. As of this writing, LBT has the capacity to actively serve 137 communities. In addition, 18 more communities are seeking our assistance. In the past five years, LBT served 149 language communities. Since our start in 1964, LBT has facilitated the publication of 48 Scripture publications.
To continue to increase capacity and meet the requests from language communities, LBT has equipped 21 missionary teams, has 88 translation advisors ready or in training, 11 doctoral candidates, and 13 consultants and consultants in training. We served 60 literacy programs. Another program emphasizing oral Bible storying impacts 15 million people.
These are a lot of numbers. They measure growth and reflect on the abundance of God’s leading and gifting as we seek to engage more people with the Gospel. We have seen many of the goals of this campaign exceeded. These goals serve the ultimate objective as is illustrated in the picture below where “Word” refers to both written form and more importantly our Savior Jesus.
