Advent in the Word: A Righteous Branch

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.” – Jeremiah 23:5
REFLECTION
God doesn’t forget His promises. Even when His people turned away, even when exile came, even when hope seemed distant—God was still at work. Through the prophet Jeremiah, He made a bold declaration: a righteous King would come. One from David’s line. One who would reign with justice and wisdom.
This promise was not fulfilled in Jeremiah’s lifetime. It came hundreds of years later, in Bethlehem, when a child was born—not to a throne, but to a manger. Jesus is that righteous Branch, the One who makes all things right. This first Advent devotion reminds us: the long arc of God’s faithfulness bends toward restoration. If you’re waiting today—on an answer, a healing, a peace that hasn’t come—hold fast. The God who fulfilled this promise will not forget you either.
PRAYER
Lord, You are the faithful one. Thank You for keeping Your promises across generations. Plant our hope in You today, and remind us that Jesus is our righteous King. Amen.
