A Fruitful Workshop
Ruthie Wagner, Lutheran Bible Translators Missionary serving as a Translation Advisor and Exegete, recently traveled to Tanzania to conduct an in-person training with the Kerewe team. “The workshop in Mwanza was a testament to their unwavering dedication and enthusiasm for learning. We had a wonderful time learning together and spending downtime getting to know one another better.”
This 11-day event was the most extended training the Kerewe team has experienced. The list of topics to cover was extensive, including Semantic Analysis, Glossary Development, Advanced Paratext Tools, Research Techniques, and more. To Ruthie’s delight, the enthusiasm of the group kept them ahead of schedule. “A significant benefit was that we could spend as much time as they needed and wanted for discussion, questions, and practice of the taught principles.”
Early in the workshop, Ruthie encouraged each translator to draft a passage. Throughout the workshop they revised the passage using the new principles and techniques on Logos and Paratext software. Ruthie celebrated their improved understanding and application of the concepts: “On the last day, they compared their workshop drafts with those before. It was convincing for us all that their hard work had paid off!”
Ruthie will continue to work remotely with the Kerewe team.
Ruthie is a Translation Advisor and Exegete working with translation programs in Tanzania, particularly with the Kerewe Bible Translation Program, located on Ukerewe Island on Lake Victoria.
