Jim Laesch

Associate Director of Program Ministries
Translation Coordinator

Jim Laesch serves as Associate Director of Program Ministries. He provides leadership and technical guidance for LBT missionaries and projects in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Several times a year Jim travels to Africa to meet with church and community partners so that God’s Word is available to people in the language of their heart.

Jim also serves as LBT’s Translation Coordinator. In this role, he supports translation personnel with training in principles and best practices for Bible translation. Jim has a B.A. in Linguistics from SIU Carbondale and a M.A. in Linguistics from NEIU in Chicago.

Jim has served with LBT more than 40 years. Early on, Jim and his wife Laura served 12 years in Liberia, where they learned the Grebo language, helped develop the alphabet, and helped start Bible Translation work.

Jim’s favorite Scripture is Philippians 2:13 (GNT): “God is always at work in you to make you willing and able to obey his own purpose.” He loves how Scripture emphasizes God initiating the work in us.

Jim and Laura, both from central Illinois, now live in rural Newark, Ill. They are members of Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Yorkville, where Jim serves on the Missions Team.

Jim and Laura have been married 43 years. They have four children and six grandchildren.
