Director of National Programs
David Snyder is a missions executive with more than 35 years of experience in missionary service focused on getting the Word of God into the world’s 7,000+ languages. His areas of expertise include vision building and strategy development, human resource management, and innovation.
Prior to joining Lutheran Bible Translators in 2010, David served for 34 years with Wycliffe Bible Translators, most recently as Vice President for Personnel (HR). Twenty-four of those years were spent in Papua New Guinea (PNG), where he started in Bible translation but soon moved into administration and leadership roles. David completed his time there as Field Director of SIL-PNG, the largest overseas mission community in the world.
David is known for going beyond typical leadership and management to get the right people, resources, and processes in place to be effective. He has navigated complicated and sensitive governance structures, implementing new models of governance; initiated new reporting systems to demonstrate progress and outcomes; revitalized middle level management from within; improved manager training and employee review processes; initiated a total rebuild of Wycliffe’s missionary partnership development system; and more. He also initiated national-level executive discussions with church leaders throughout Papua New Guinea.
David holds a bachelor’s degree from Concordia Sr. College in Fort Wayne, Ind., and a master’s in Linguistics from the University of Papua New Guinea. He is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (2007-present), a member of the Christian Management Association (2005-present), and a member of the Society of Human Resource Management (2007-present). David lives in Oswego, Ill., with his wife, Ruth. They have two adult children.
